Casual Day

Hi babes! I cannot believe I am writing a new post TWO years after creating this blog. With the craziness of school, work, and life in general, I haven't been able to spend time on this! But I actually came across a fellow fashion lover and fellow Vancouverite, Melissa Chen, on ig and I was absolutely inspired. I follow many fashion instagram pages but something about Melissa and her confidence that she exudes struck something inside me! And I am now motivated again to actually put effort into what I love so much, fashion and beauty. I cannot wait to see what I accomplish in the next few months :)

The day I wore this outfit was a casual day with some of my friends. I had just been at an event so my makeup was already done and I was sporting one of my favorite hairstyles, a double side french braid. I think it's so cute, yet simple. The dress I'm wearing is from my FAVE online store, FashionNova. So many of my outfits are from FashionNova that my closest friends and coworkers always tell me I should be their ambassador lol! This particular dress was such a great purchase because it's so comfy and easy to pair with other items. I got such a great wear out of it this past summer. I threw on an oversized jean jacket with it on this day, which I could also have it over my shoulders with a pair of cute heels, to dress it up. But for the causal day with friends, I put on my go-to runners, the Nike Roshes. I love white sneakers and I thought they went so cute with the outfit.

I hope you enjoyed this post and stay tuned for so much more! :)

L'Oreal's Youth Code Pore Vanisher

The secret to a flawless face makeup, one may argue, is a good primer (aside from great foundation). Aside from achieving an amazing finish, I personally HATE putting foundation directly on my skin without using any type of product prior. Unfortunately, being the forever broke, working student that I am, I have yet to try high-end primers that many beauty gurus rave about, such as Smashbox's Pore Minimizing Primer or Benefit's Porefessional. Since I first started using makeup, I've always been and still am the biggest drugstore makeup junkie. So I've tried various alternate options of this essential step and have had mixed results, until I discovered the best dupe a few months ago. Before I get into this product, let me tell you some of the options I have tried. Depending on your situation, these may be your best alternative.

The first option I've tried and still use, despite my new discovery, is a good moisturizer or toner. This option hydrates and provides a thin, yet necessary, layer between your bare skin and foundation. Most people with some level of consciousness own a bottle of moisturizer or toner (if you don't, lawwwd please go purchase one right now), thus it's a great, affordable alternative. Just like you would with a primer, definitely make sure to let your moisturizer or toner soak into your skin before applying foundation. The reason this option is still my go-to, aside from the fact that it is the cheapest, is that it gives me the most matte finish. As you'll read below, unless you have extremely dry skin, many primers will not give you the matte look, especially after a long day. Using a moisturizer or, especially a toner, will instead provide the necessary layer without the greasy mess that I personally don't like.

An option that I'm sure most of you have heard about is Maybelline's Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser. Yes, the brand we've all tried back in elementary school, using our $20 allowances (I'm only kidding, no shade, I've definitely tried some great products from Maybelline recently). What I shouldn't be joking about is its unbeatable drugstore price! A very promising name, I must mention - who wouldn't want to achieve a 'baby skin' and erase their pores?! This product is additionally very eye-catching due to their adorable packaging and damn, aren't us girls suckers for cute packaging. As for what the product claims to provide, my skin felt very smooth immediately after applying it and my foundation glided on very smoothly. Despite the positives listed above, I was a little disappointed with this product. Even though my skin isn't too oily, I noticed that after wearing it all day, it left my skin looking a little too 'dewy' for my liking. I've also read quite a few reviews that this product made them break out, which is never a good thing in my book, BYE.

Finally, the product I've discovered, thanks to one of my favorite youtubers, Nicole Guerriero, is L'Oreal's Pore Vanisher. Now, this one is definitely on the pricer side for a drugstore product. Which is why I literally checked to see if it was on sale every time I visited my local drug store. Nicole was quite impressed with this product, explaining that it was the closest dupe to the infamous Porefessional, in her review video. Alas, it is. I've only tried it once so far (yes, I trying to save it) and I was very happy with how it kept my skin looking matte throughout the day. The consistency and color of the product also differed from Maybelline's Instant Pore Eraser; this one is beige/skin tone and creamier, whereas the the Maybelline's product is clear, opaque, and more greasy.

I definitely recommend trying all the options above according to your skin type and budget :)

Protein World's Slender Blend Capsules

It may have been my homegirls, the Kardashians, or the OG JLo, or Nicki Minaj and her videos featuring her unreal behind. Regardless of who started it, there is no denying that the crazy big booty hype has swept over the world. Many women have been moving away from the 'stick-skinny', 'size 0','shapeless' figure, towards a 'toned', 'thick', 'bootylicious' body. This big butt = sexy trend can be witnessed on popular social media sites/apps alone, where it's evident that women are working their butts off, pun intended, to achieve a curvier body.

Throughout my research on fitness, I've always read that cardio will only result in a smaller version of yourself and that strength training and weight lifting should be your workout of choice if your fitness goal is to change the shape of your body. Being full Asian, I was not blessed with a curvaceous body, such as that of a Kardashian, hence the boob job that I'm saving up for (but that's another story). Despite this #asiangirlproblem, I was determined to work for the juicy bottom I wanted for myself. Using women who began with flat pancakes and squatted their way to the top, such as Iggy Azalea and Jen Selter, as inspiration, I slowly started doing various exercises for my glutes, butt, and quads.

Even though I am nowhere near my dream body, I definitely have slightly changed the shape of my body. However, through this butt-crazed fitness journey, I can definitely confess that I've been slacking in the cardio department. SO my goal for the next month is to get myself back into doing more cardiovascular, heart healthy exercises. These will not only help me with my overall health, but also help me slim down to my goal body. I figured I should lose the weight I want to lose before worrying about gaining muscle in the areas I'm concerned about.

I was double-tapping away on Instagram a few weeks ago, when I came across a fitness guru who had posted a photo of herself with her protein shake. The protein powder was called Protein World, a brand I have seen all over various social media sites, has a massive following, and was endorsed by many celebrities. Of course, these endorsements aren't fooling anybody - celebrities probably bring home a fat cheque for just holding up the product. But I started reading about their products and researched their ingredients to find out what their products are claiming to help achieve.

One product particularly caught my eye and it's their Slender Blend Capsules. Whether it be due to always being sleep deprived or my other issues I'll get into later, I've always had issues with lack of energy. This definitely influences my performance during workouts, especially on days I don't consume enough calories. These capsules contain natural ingredients such as guarana extract, green extract, as well as caffeine. What these little dietary capsule are claiming is to boost energy daily and during workouts (to help perform to one's best ability and burn more calories), while maintaining a healthy diet/calorie-deficient diet (in order to lose weight). With my knowledge in both nutrition and fitness, and with the help of the internet, I've concluded that these pills might be just what I need at the moment, especially with the amount of cardio I am planning to incorporate into my workout regime. The company is also very well known for their popular Slender Blend Protein Powder, which I was very tempted to also purchase but since I'm extremely satisfied with the brand I'm currently using, I resisted.

I am excited to see if the capsules will, in fact, give me the results they're promising. Stay tuned!

Casual Spring/Summer Outfit Inspirations

School's out (at least for us college kids), sun's out, gyms are getting busier, hair is getting lighter, nights are getting longer...  My favorite season, Spring, is finally here. It's a see ya next year to the thick coats, thigh high boots (...or Uggs, no judgement), scarves, and a excited hello to our favorite spring items that we've been longingly staring at all winter. Even though it hasn't been long since we've accepted the fact that it's already May into 2015, the biggest tease, that is the beautiful Vancouver spring weather, has been encouraging people to definitely dress more lightly.

My first inspo post is none other than my #1 fashion inspiration, Kim Kardashian, duhh. These are a few of her outfits from past years that I love. I absolutely love these ones especially because they are so casual, yet so fab, and very easy to put together with more affordable brands. I'm definitely planning to do ootds with suggestions of similar but more affordable items so stay tuned!!!

Are you as excited as I am for this spring/summer?!
